About the Event

Laura Free, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of History, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, and author of "Suffrage Reconstructed: Gender, Race and Voting Rights in the Civil War Era," will speak on Stanton. Free will describe a time when "male" became synonymous with citizenship in the 14th Amendment, and Stanton and Anthony made a tactical shift in their crusade for suffrage, with divisive, long-lasting effects.

In compliance with New York State COVID-19 guidelines, this event will be held outside on the east lawn of the Granger Homestead, our co-sponsor, with socially distanced seating arranged under canopy tents. For the health and safety of all, attendees are requested to wear masks.
